THE MENU
We start with Ulunthu Vadai. Think South Asia's bagel with a mean streak. Urad dal, fried until golden and crisp, spiked with chilli, onion and curry leaf. Nutty, smoky, salty heat. The kind of flavour that hits first and explains itself later.
For the mains, it all arrives at once. Aiyō dhal. Deep, unapologetic beef curry. Sweet-sour batu moju jammy, spice-soaked eggplant cutting through the richness. A moreish fish cutlet and half a cumin-fried egg atop fragrant yellow rice, all wrapped in banana leaf so the aroma arrives before the food does. Tropical. Balanced. No restraint.
For the vegetarian lovers, we're serving a slow-cooked village jackfruit curry alongside a crisp jackfruit cutlet. Familiar comfort, a Sri Lankan staple.
To finish, we're really leaning into dessert memory. Tea and biscuits. Decadent Sri Lankan biscuit pudding. Dark, rich chocolate mousse topped with a light tropical tea foam. We're also trialling a watalappam, a Sri Lanka's answer to crème caramel. Dark, fragrant and rich with coconut milk, jaggery, cardamom and nutmeg.
